Services for former Anderson County resident Henry Swanson Sr., 85,
of Houston will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in the South Union Baptist
Church with the Rev. C.J. Abraham officiating. Burial will be
in Memorial Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home. Mr., Swanson died Wednesday. he was born in Anderson County July 1, 1900, a son of Jessie and Dora Cummings Swanson. Survivors include daughters, Maple S. Cravin, Barbara S. Owens and Willie B. Swanson, all of Houston, Mattie Robertson of Dallas and Billie S. Lane of Palestine; sons, Edward R. Swanson, Henry Swanson, Jr., Andrew J. Swanson and Claude B. Swanson, all of Houston; brother, Carl Swanson of Mart, Texas; 30 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A wake will be tonight from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home. |

Mr. Henry Swanson, Sr., was born in Palestine, Texas, to the late
Mr. Jessie Swanson and Dora Cumming Swanson. He was the oldest
of the four children born to this union. One sister and one
brother preceded him in death. He attended school in Anderson County. At an early age he united with Mt. Olive Baptist Church an later attended Bellavista Missionary Baptist Church where he retained his membership until his death May 14, 1986. He leaves to mourn his loss nine children, Mrs. Maple S. Cravin, Ms. Willie B. Swanson and Mrs. Barbara S. Owens, Edward R. Swanson, Henry Swanson, Jr., Andrew J. Swanson, Sr., Claude B. Swanson, all of Houston, Mrs. Mattie S. Robertson, of Dallas, Texas, and Billie S. Lane, of Palestine, Texas. One brother, Carl Swanson, Sr., of Mart, Texas; thirty grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. |
